A classic DVD from a real master of mentalism. There're no flashy effects, no silly hype or any bells and whistles in this DVD, just a good, honest production. It has the feel of those old videos you used to watch in geography class at school with an old professor explaining plate tectonics. For me, it's that old world charm, the way this DVD has been shot that really makes it appeal to me with Carlyle coming across like a lovable old Grandad teaching his grandkids magic tricks on Christmas morning.

This really is a DVD that I think should be in everyones collection. It is packed full of classic pieces of mentalism which are all explained in perfect detail. They're the kind of effects that we can all take away, work on and make them into something that is our own. That's one thing that Carlyle speaks about all through the DVD, how we should all put our own twist on effects and make them ours, something that I strongly agree with.

The biggest highlight of the DVD for me is the Butter Tub Headline Prediction which is worth the price of the DVD on it's own in my opinion. An envelope can be posted to an event organiser days ahead of time, on the night of the show it's opened and seen to contain a number of slips of paper. The slips each contain impossible predictions from events that happened in your show to the days headlines. There are no gimmicks, no switches and the envelope really can be posted ahead of time. A lovely method and totally genius in it's simplicity.

Another highlight for me is the Almost No Gimmick Book Test, a nice little take on the classic Hoy test and something that anyone who performs book tests will want to have a look at.

Along side these two brilliant effects are many other of Carlyle's takes on classic effects, his Seven Keys to Baldplate and Out of This World methods are also well worthy of a mention.
